iPhone Skin from PMPProducts

iphone skin from pmpproducts
  1. IphoneskinsPMPProducts is already advertising an iPhone Skin for you future iPhone. They don’t give any pricing or release date information at this point.

iPhone’s multi-touch screen will certainly give headaches to Skin protector manufacturers and also protective case makers. A lot of tests will have to be done to make sure the screen protectors won’t interfere with the multi-touch screen of the iPhone. The kind of sensibility we have seen so far from the demos at Macworld suggest that you won’t be able to have a screen protector on the iPhone. This reality will force manufacturers to innovate and bring new ways of protecting those precious devices.

New Zune Accessories From Belkin and Monster

new zune accessories from belkin and monster

MonsterfmtransmitterzuneWhile visiting CES last week and constantly asking questions about Zune accessories to manufacturers every time I had a chance, I finally had hints on what to expect from a few of them.

A sales manager of Monster told us we should see a new Zune FM Transmitter on the market in the near future. Monster already has a FM Transmitter but the new one will have an autoseek feature just like the Zune FM transmitter made by Microsoft. The person could not give me a specific date but he said Q1 of 2007 is good guess.

From Belkin we should expect new Zune cases. I was told that spring 2007 is the timeframe set by Belkin to release those new Zune cases.

100_2453_1According to Evan Stein, Vice-president of Marketing Division of SDI (iHomeaudio), we should expect the new speaker systems and alarm clock for the Zune in spring 2007.

One last thing, we tried to confirm with Bill Wittress that Microsoft will send the Zune protocol information to Harman Kardan for the Drive+Play 2. Bill gave us the usual "can’t discuss future business deals" but he confirmed he add dinner with Gina Harman last week at CES. Sounds like discusssions are not so easy with Harman Kardan!

Mock-ups of iPhone Nano and iPhone Shuffle

mock ups of iphone nano and iphone shuffle

Iphonemockups

It’s been a only a week since the announcement of the iPhone release date and we already have a new wave of future iPhone mock-ups. Since we know on what technology the iPhone is based, artists can let their imagination go wild. And they do! The idea of the iPhone Shuffle is not new but repacked with the real look and feel of the iPhone, it gives a pretty good look.

Iphoneshuffle

Enven though I like the iPhone mock-ups, I thought the first version of the iPhone announced by Steve Jobs last week was the equivalent of the Nano for the iPod. I would see an iPod version of the iPhone with at least 30Gb of hard-disk or even better of flash disk…

David Pogue Posts Updated iPhone FAQS

david pogue posts updated iphone faqs

New York Times columnist David Pogue has published an ammended blog entry containing a second round of FAQs everyone seems to interested in finding answers to. This is definitely worth the click, as it paints a clearer picture of this “micro” OSX platform. I found one comment from Steve Jobs to be rather dishy…

Markoff: “And what are you thinking about Flash and Java?”

Jobs: “Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.”

Markoff: “Flash?”

Jobs: “Well, you might see that.”

Markoff: “What about YouTube–”

Jobs: “Yeah, YouTube—of course. But you don’t need to have Flash to show YouTube. All you need to do is deal with YouTube. And plus, we could get ‘em to up their video resolution at the same time, by using h.264 instead of the old codec.”

Err..I hate to break this to Steve but YouTube’s embedded video playback feature is based on Flash, so I’m not sure whether he understood the relevance of Markoff’s line of questions regarding Flash and its inclusion in the iPhone. Partnering with YouTube isn’t going to enable playback of YouTube content on the iPhone unless that partnership involves said company building a portable Flash package for Apple’s new phone. But I digress.

iPhone Shackles Users to Apple’s Walled Garden

iphone shackles users to apple%e2%80%99s walled garden

bilde.jpgAs “iPhone euphoria” slowly wears off, replaced with sobering reality, some of iPhone’s less shiny aspects are beginning to come into view. Wilmington North Corolina’s StarNews (I didn’t know they had newspapers in NC. Wonder if they have internets as well ;) ) pointed out the unfairness of Apple’s FairPlay digital rights management (DRM) technology which locks users into Apple’s walled garden by limiting playback of songs purchased through the iTunes Store only on Apple authorized hardware. Since Apple doesn’t license FairPlay to any other vendor, that means you can only listen to these legally purchased tracks on an iPod, or iPhone in this case.

Needless to say a good many users, and competitors to Apple, are not happy with this arrangement. Some are seeking legal recourse, accusing Apple of being a monopoly.

As consumers become more aware of how copy protection limits perfectly lawful behavior, they should throw their support behind the music labels that offer digital music for sale in plain-vanilla MP3 format, without copy protection.

Apple pretends that the decision to use copy protection is out of its hands. In defending itself against Ms. Tucker’s lawsuit, Apple’s lawyers noted in passing that digital-rights-management software is required by the major record companies as a condition of permitting their music to be sold online: “Without D.R.M., legal online music stores would not exist.”

iPhone Accessories : Earphone and Bluetooth headset

iphone accessories earphone and bluetooth headset

Earphonesiphone

There are two iPhone accessories announced by Apple last Tuesday. The stereo headphones come with a tiny dongle, microphone and a switch. You just have to push it together to answer or hang up on a call. Cool! Isn’t it?

Bluetoothiphone

A Bluetooth headset will also be available to match your iPhone. The device is really small and a single button on the top and automatically pairs.

I’m pretty sure we are going to see an avalanche of iPhone accessories before the year’s end.
What would the first iPhone accessory you would buy?
