App Store the Revolution

app store the revolution

Apple has a plan: it will take 30% of the revenue from each application sold in its app store. That’s a healthy profit when you consider that it is planning for an average price per app of $10. With potentially millions of apps sold, that soon adds up to a nice little earner. But what if – just imagine – most of the app developers that were planning to put their software in the app store intended that their products should be entirely free? What if those that did intend to charge were only looking at an average price of $2.29? Stop with the ‘what if’s! This is actually the current forecast! A survey of iPhone developers by Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray has found that this is the stark reality. While it is initially great news for iPhone owners it is devastating news for Apple’s marketing boys. Apple have been trying to encourage developers to charge more for their app store apps, and it is easy now to see why. Of course the app store is more Apple than just a direct profit on each of the apps, and the added utility for iPhone users alone should be worth much more than any revenue sharing arrangement.

iPhone Games goes Platinum

iphone games goes platinum

Good news for people in the Australasia region: Apple’s tour de force of countries receiving the iPhone games is increasing. This time, though, they may be diverting from the standard tactic of providing rights to use the iPhone games to only telephony carrier. This has to be excellent news for the consumer as even a duopoly provides competition. A monopoly such as that seen in the US, UK And Germany allows the carrier – in conjunction with Apple to whom a proportion of profits go – to set whatever price they deem suitable.

New deals in Singapore, India, Philippines and Australia mean that customers there will soon be getting the marvelous iPhone games. These deals are added to the others recently closed in Turkey, Italy, Canada and so many others.

Apple had reportedly sold 5.4 million iPhone games units, and with these new deals (and with the imminent arrival of the new model) this is likely to surge forward.

iPhone Games will be available thru App store

iphone games will be available thru app store 2

It doesn’t have to be expensive to get high quality iPhone games onto your phone. Of course it can be expensive – and you really can be ripped off quite quickly – but if you spend a little time searching you’ll most likely get it right.

The floodgates on iPhone games opened when Apple released the iPhone SDK (software development kit) to its adoring public. Third party developers are now able to develop iPhone games and release them for download. While not all these games are of a quality worth writing home about some are; some iPhone games are just begging to be picked up and played.

Paying for a single game can be the best option. Not only do you get exactly the game you want, but you’re only paying for that game. Often this is the only way that you can download some premium games.

Paying for a membership to an iPhone games download site can give varying results: sometimes the range of iPhone games available is well worth the money, other times you will get access to what is essentially a load of poor quality titles that you could get for free anyway. Do some research on the membership site in question first!

iPhone with 3G and Games

iphone with 3g and games

As Apple’s wonder toy – the iPhone – becomes increasingly popular, so do the number of ways in which to waste our precious time on the machine. I decided I’d look into downloading some iPhone games yesterday, and I found a surprising array of choice.

The first thing that stuck me was the price of the some of the premium games. They can get expensive. The next thing that struck me was the sheer wealth and variety of games that are available to play through the iPhone’s games browser. These browser-based iPhone games are more simple than the downloadable variety as their performance is limited by lack of resources and by the browser in which they are being played. They are, though, everyone’s favorite price.

Somewhere in the middle are the non-premium downloadable iPhone games. Some are available for free but the best selection is available through a number of membership sites that have popped up. These sites offer unlimited downloads of iPhone games for a simple monthly or upfront fee. I made the mistake of diving into the first one of these I found for a modest $20/month fee but the variety of iPhone games available wasn’t worth half that. I cut my losses and found another, slightly pricier, option which proved much better value for money.

The moral of this story? Shop around, like you would for everything else.
