Check out Patong
It’s not difficult to see why Patong Beach is such a popular part of Phuket. You could call Patong the Khao San Road of Phuket. It’s where backpackers first find their feet and where holidaymakers can find spaces to relax in seclusion.
The beach in Patong was once the main draw of the area. However, thanks to overcrowdedness and an entourage of vendors and hawkers, the beach in Patong isn’t quite as charming as it once was. That being said, Patong Beach does still have sand and sea. You can go swimming and sunbathe until your heart’s content in Patong, so it isn’t all bad. If you’re into jet-skis then Patong is the place to be.
Some people book trips to Patong for no other reason than to enjoy the nightlife. Locals and expats will also tell you that Patong is the place to be if you want to party. Whatever your taste, you’ll probably find somewhere to drink and party in Patong that meet your needs.
A lot of Wetsern men enjoy Patong for the abundance of beer bars. This is where some people go to pick up Thai girls. Although it’s not particularly pleasant to see, Patong can provide some interesting fodder for people watching. Take it all with a pinch of salt.
Above all else, Phuket has numerous bars and clubs where the music is loud, the door stays open until late and the booze is incredibly cheap. If this sounds like heaven then you’ll probably have a great time in Phuket.
Things are a little calmer during the day, which is when most people choose to go shopping. The street stalls are good for things like DVDs and (not-so) amusing T-shirts, while Jungceylon mall has lots of clothing stores, a cinema and even a bowling alley.
