Spelling is not one of my favorite things, and looking over the traffic logs of the OfficialAres.com website, I can see that it’s not top on the list of many other people. The range of misspellings of the term Ares is astounding. One has to assume that these people ultimately wanted the Official Ares site as they ended up there; quite what brought on the fit of misspelling is unknown.

Some misspellings originate from people who speak different languages. These misspellings are entirely forgivable since, phonetically, the word Ares may be completely different in their language than in English. French speakers, for example, will sometimes spell the word Arez while Eastern Europeans will plump for ‘Areas’. Visitors from Latin America sometimes type Aires or Aries (both interesting as they are ‘real’ words in English and, given their Latin routes, presumably in Latin America, too).

Some words appear just to be blatant misspellings. Others seem to be misspellings originating from a too-quick typist: Aers is a perfect example, where it seems that the ‘E’ has come down before the ‘R’. Others have an extra letter: Aeres, for instance. Aris is a little more difficult to analyze, but it might just be someone mishearing the word. Who knows?
