Sarah Palin became Governor of Alaska at the young age of 42 in 2006. She was called “the most popular governor in America.” by some media outlets; this in response to polls in 2007 that put her popularity at 93% and 89%. Impressive number for the first woman Governor of the state, and also the first Governor to have been born since Alaska became a full US State.
Moose hunting Sarah Palin is no stranger to guns, of course. It is no surprise that part of her job as Governor was to support a policy that allowed the hunting of wolves from helicopters: this was intended to help the moose and caribou populations to increase. The announcement of a bounty of $150 per wolf split opinion into two diametrically opposed camps. Unfortunately one camp contained a state judge, and the bounty was ultimately help to be illegal.
The Bridge to Nowhere episode won Sarah Palin many more friends than enemies and this has been used extensively in the 2008 Vice Presidential campaign with John McCain. It cannot be said that Sarah Palin will not stand up for her beliefs, and whatever you may think of her policies, that is a definite plus.
