It is sometimes the case that a long time brand leader – the type of product that is associated instantly with that product — gets complacent and overtaken by the competition. So it is with Ares Galaxy, the sometime leader of the pack of Ares filesharing software.

Ares Galaxy was at one time the only real choice for filesharing. That was six years ago, though, and while the other versions of Ares have quickly been improving and taking user comments on board, Ares Galaxy has seemingly been stuck in a rut from which it can’t get out.

The simple fact that new versions like Ares Ultimate, Ares Ultra and Ares Vista offer customer support – something which Ares Galaxy was never able to do – should place them well above the original version. Couple this with the technological advances that the newer versions have taken advantage of, and you’ve got a series of real contenders.

Not all the new versions are as good as the old Ares Galaxy, though, so pick carefully. Those listed above will certainly improve on the old software, but versions like Ares Gold and Ares Destiny are a distinct leap backwards (plus which they’re bundled with some rather nasty adware!). If you choose carefully then there is a world of opportunity out there.
