Salvia is legal in the US and across most of the rest of the world. Only Australia joins a handful of US states in making the harmless herbaceous plant illegal.
The effects of Salvia are supposedly quite varied. I chewed some leaves once and felt nothing over a strange sense of disquiet and introspection. Friends that have smoked the potentiated extract have reported inane giggles (in fact I’ve been there when this happened) and a very odd sensation of moving when, in fact, the users were completely static. Strange indeed. What is generally common between reports of usage is experience of hallucinations.
If you’re looking purely at the effects, Saliva is much like LSD – except the trip is markedly shorter, lasting around 5 minutes and peaking after 1. In terms of manner of ingestion the similarly is probably stronger with Marijuana or its many close relatives: smoking the potentiated extract is the most potent way to get Salvia’s active hallucinogenic ingredient into the system.
Salvia had a relatively late start in the eyes of the public but it has been used for many years by members of the Mexican Mazatec tribe. It only really came into the public view with a British documentary in 1998.
