Apple are clever. They produce fantastic products, market them expertly, then make the maximum possible money from them in the minimum time. Sounds like a pretty solid business plan to me. This is why Apple’s adventure into the world of iPhone TV will work a treat.
Apple will definitely not be the first telephone provider to offer TV streamed to the device. It will not be the last. I am willing to bet, however, that it will be the best and that it will be the most effectively marketed. Lastly, but surely not least, I would be willing to wager that Apple’s iPhone TV will be the most profitable venture of its kind.
The thing about Apple is that it doesn’t just get profit from the act of providing iPhone TV itself – though no doubt the app required will cost, as will the data streamed to the phone while watching. Apple will also, no doubt, adorn iPhone TV quite liberally with advertisements. There is scope for finely tuned geographic and socio-economic targeting with these adverts, and I have no doubt that Apple will take full advantage of their weight within the telecoms industry to make the most of any relationships they might have with potential advertisers. With all this said and done the mac games freaks will get their long lasting dream.
