With bands and services dedicated to free music downloads popping up almost on a weekly basis, it is clear there are moves afoot to change the music industry beyond recognition. What does this mean for music lovers? Free music downloads. And there are not many that would complain at that.

The protracted sales slump currently being experienced by the record industry may have something to do with the variety of ways in which we can now obtain free music downloads. From services like We7, to bands like Nine Inch Nails who have recently offered their new album entirely for free.

Like it or not (and I do), free music downloads has a part to play in the music industry’s future. Forward, progressive thinkers like Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, the people behind We7 and even Sony BMG are dragging the remainder of the industry in the right direction. The transition may be a slow one, but it is also completely inevitable.
